So for those who don't know, I want very badly to make a living off of my comics. At least I think i do. It's tough sometimes. I wonder what's the point of trying? I'm 26, how do I expect to get into this market at my age? How can I compete with all this talent? Well when I'm super down in the dumps and depressed about how little I've done with my life, I turn to a reply Becky Cloonan, one of my idols, once left me when I asked how I could make it in the comics industry. It's pretty much been my mantra since I was 20. That's right, over six years ago she left me this response on here and I haven't removed it since.

"well see, drawing comics, and getting published has the same answer: draw comics! ross had done a bunch of pages before he was picked up by Oni. and I had self published 12 mini comics before i hooked up with brian and ait on Jennie One. so if you want to get published, drawing comics is also the answer to that question too.

the only way to improve your comic skills is to draw comics. likewise, the more comics you draw the better you will get. the better you get the better your chances of getting published are. therefore, the more comics you draw the better your chances of getting published are. A good portfolio is one thing, and it's always nice to have around, but having finished comic pages are so much more impressive. and showing you can follow through and do a whole comic is even more impressive. So get to work on that story of yours!! XD

getting a comic deal is 3 things. How good you are. How fast you are. And who you know. The best advice I can give is go make some minis and get yourself to the next comic convention, and give them out to as many people behind a table you can. editors, publishers, even other artists. they are your peers and it's just good to get to know people :3."

It's really excellent advice. I just need to learn to follow it better.

I wonder how long I can keep the lolcats journal titles goin'. I'm willing to find out.

So, look! I actually updated all the artwork. Go me. And I also blasted through about 3,800 deviations in my watch list. still about 1,200 to go and it's getting harder. Already knocked down all the stuff I wasn't interested in and have been crawling through the rest.

In case anyone is wondering, I currently am hard at work doing a website and illustration for an anti-animal testing organization called Put Your Foot Down. Basically they have big foot as the mascot and want me to design the shirts and a splash page. Has to be done by the end of the month O_O

Also started another shirt design. Going with a doctor who theme again. Sontarans this time. It's a humor shirt, though, so we'll see how it does. Could really use another couple grand lol. Maybe I should hurry up and file my taxes :P

Yes. Yes, you can.

So I have a few pieces I'll be uploading soon. Had a T-shirt go up on Tee Fury www.teefury.com and sold quite a bit. 1800+ actually. So in an attempt to be a more active artist, I bought a premium account and will be using dA hopefully lots more. I know I say this a lot. So don't believe me.

But look, I made a fancy layout for my journal!

SOOOOOO... HI! Oh what? Surprised I'm alive? Yeah, i don't blame you. I've gone through a series of computer breakdowns but I'm back for good this time. Might even you know... pay for this thing. I'm glad to see deviantArt finally found a way to make checking all 5000+ deviations I've had piling up less of a chore with these art stacks. Seriously, it's super convenient. Oh and on this new computer dA doesn't run at a snails pace. But yeah, once my life settles down and there's less graphic design work for me to do, I'll be updating this with the past year or art I've done (which sad to say isn't a lot). But Peeby and Jay will return, comics will get written (that's a heads up for all you fans of the Rockabilly Werwolf), Art thieves will be scolded, and you'll get to see a glimpse of the overwhelming chore of being a company's sole graphic designer. It'll be fun. And also I'm unable to respond to everyone who has been awesome enough to leave me feedback but I'll do my best to catch up to the last couple of months and perhaps the best comments I can find.

Commissions

1 min read
So I'm out of work and it's a month til my surgery. That's not quite ideal to get a new job so I was thinking maybe I could open up to commissions again. Last time noone was willing to spend money on my drawings but maybe this time?

So anyone interested? We can talk about price once I figure out if anyone actually is willing to purchase my artwork.
